How we check fares

Every number on this site comes from a page you can open yourself. This page explains where they come from and what the calculator does with them.

Where the numbers come from

What the calculator does

You pick the journeys you plan to take. The calculator adds up what those journeys cost as ordinary tickets, works out which are covered by the pass (Nozomi and Mizuho trains need an extra ticket), and compares the total with the pass price. It shows the difference in yen, so exchange rates do not blur the answer.

Fares here are the standard adult fares for reserved seats. Discount tickets, seasonal surcharges and child fares can change the result, and we say so where it matters.

How affiliate links fit in

Some links are affiliate links, and we may earn a commission if you book through them, at no extra cost to you. The calculator is the same whether or not a product pays us, and when single tickets win, it says so. Links that earn us money carry a sponsored attribute. Full detail: affiliate disclosure.

Keeping pages current

Fares and pass prices change — the JR Pass price rose on 1 October 2026. We re-check the official pages regularly and every page shows when it was last checked. If an official page differs from ours, trust the official page, and please tell us at the contact address we will add here shortly.
